  • Kaffa = KuH - Fah
  • Michiti = Me - CHi - tee

The Region:

Chena is a district in the Kaffa Zone, which is in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. The zone gets its name from the old Kingdom of Kaffa, which spanned parts of what is now south western Ethiopia from 1390–1897. It is also where coffee is rumored to have been discovered, which explains why Kaffa and coffee sound so similar.

The Story:

Michiti is a cooperative in the far Western part of Ethiopia. Michiti has 260 cooperative members growing coffee on small farms at altitudes of 1700 - 1900 meters above sea level. Although, most of these small farms are in fact planted in the forests, untended, then harvested when ripe--truly wild.

Dry Aroma

Delicate sweetness, honey graham cracker and cinnamon

Wet Aroma:

Raw sugar, baked peaches, and Earl Grey tea notes

The Taste:

Honey, dried papaya, rose hips, and hibiscus all add to the complexitiy of the coffee, which is complemented well by the tea-life brightness and herbal notes remniscent of sweet basil. This is a nice, balanced cup.
